The Optec-Berlin-Brandenburg (OpTecBB) registered association is an initiative of companies and scientific institutes in Berlin and Brandenburg, searching for common ways to open up and use optical technologies. OpTecBB was founded in Berlin on September 14th, 2000 and officially registered in Berlin-Charlottenburg on January 24th, 2001.

The competence network OpTecBB wants to bring protagonists and partners together to make a lasting contribution towards strengthening the innovation potential of the regional economy. It offers a platform for the protagonists, the majority of whom are members, to network within the region and develops close contacts to other regional competence networks. The organization is supported by the concept of reflexive network development of the research group of 'enterprise networks' (FU Berlin, Prof. Sydow).
