Photonics in Switching 2006
Call for Papers for International Conference
16-18 October 2006, Herakleion (Crete), Greece*
http://www.ps2006.gr
Deadline for paper submission: 16 June 2006
Summary
Today, the demand for both established and new services keeps growing whilst recent developments worldwide and in particular in Eastern Asia, Northern America and Europe manifest that there are coordinated efforts to unlock the bandwidth bottleneck in the access part. These developments in the access network will impose formidable tasks in the backbone: the network will become dynamic whilst the nodes should be service transparent, even agnostic, and capable of crossconnecting tens of Tb/s traffic maintaining some level of QoS and other end-to-end performance guarantees. In this context, the optimum blend of optical and electronic technologies is sought for constructing cost-effective high capacity switching nodes taking into account a variety of performance constraints.
Photonics in Switching (PS) is a historic conference on optical switching created at the end of the 1980’s. Mixing an active academic community with manufacturers and operators it is aiming to address these issues and to pave the way towards next generation networks.
